It’s Monday March 5, 2007 and tonight’s forecast for Killbear Provincial Park is a mind numbing –38 degrees Celsius!! However, spring is only 2 weeks away which means this weird winter of 2006/2007 is soon to end. Around here, although January was very warm with absolutely no snow on the ground, February blasted in with the coldest February on record and quickly put down 2-3 feet of the white stuff which has been great for the cross-country skiers, snowshoer’s, and the snowmobilers. The Georgian Bay in front of Killbear Provincial Park, and as far as the eye can see, is frozen. Mike Crookshank, who likes to ice fish, tells us that the ice is 2 feet thick. He’s been doing pretty good with the lake trout fishing.
Summer is coming and so at Killbear Park Mall, planning is well under way for the upcoming season. Some of the orders have arrived already and others are expected any day. Lots of boxes filled with new colorful products- it’s like Christmas time.
There’s other activities going on that are a sure sign of things to come. It seems strange to be talking to people about July and August, but people are phoning to make arrangements and to book a tent trailer for their holiday. It’s fun talking to them and hearing when and where they’re going to camp in Killbear this summer. Some are planning on camping in other near by parks such as Oastler and Grundy. If you’re thinking about camping in a more comfortable manner, you should consider our 10 foot Rockwood Freedom trailers. Along with the fridge, stove and furnace, they even have heated mattresses. The web page has more info on this.
Other than that, of newsworthy note, Mike’s photography work has been published in the new magazine Beyond The City. At Killbear Park Mall, we were surprised to learn that along with his photography skills, it would appear he is a writer. The magazine accepted his photographs and the accompanying article. The editor phoned to say he was going to print exactly as Mike wrote it. Check out the photography link on our website.
In preparation for the oncoming season, among the many changes and plans we’ve made over the winter, perhaps the most noteworthy one is the plan to be selling fresh baked bread this summer baked right here at the store. Nearly 28 years ago when Killbear Park Mall had just opened, some may recall that bakery bread was offered then. So it’s exciting to be able once again to include this product in the store. There are other changes and we’ll leave you, the customer, to discover them this summer…
